Skyward Sword is the newest game in the Zelda series, designed for the Wii, and set to be released in the fourth quarter of 2011. This game is intended to be a prequel to Ocarina of Time, becoming the "first" game in the series chronologically. Skyward Sword will take advantage of the Wii Motion Plus add-on for sword-fighting. The Motion Plus will allow true 1:1 movement of Link's sword.
The game begins in a world above the clouds, known as Skyloft. Link is a resident of Skyloft, and he eventually discovers a new world beneath the clouds (presumably Hyrule). Supposedly the game will continue the two-worlds motif that has been common since A Link to the Past. The titular Skyward Sword will eventually become the Master Sword, and it can also take on the appearance of a female who will give Link advice throughout the game, continuing the companion trope started in Ocarina of Time. Producer Eiji Aonuma said in interviews that the overall plot of the game will resemble a type of school drama. Zelda will of course be kidnapped, and Link will have to go to the world below the clouds to rescue her. One of the main villains revealed is Lord Ghirahim, who may or may not have connections to Ganondorf. Only time will tell.
The overall art style of the game seems to be a cross between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. The art style seems to be inspired by impressionism. An announcement in 2010 revealed that there will be orchestrated music in the game, a first in the series.
Estimated Release Date: 4th Quarter 2011
